Description

In 1965, I had the unique opportunity to ride in an original 1965 Grey Shelby Cobra 427/425HP. The acceleration would pin you back in the seat. That memory became a tattoo on my brain. My Backdraft Shelby Cobra reminds me so much of that original. Original Shelby's were built in a garage for racing with hand tools right down to the rivets in the hood. 15" rims and tires were the look. Low profile run flats and 18" rims found on many Shelby's today are far from that original classic style. Like Superformance, Backdrafts are not just kit cars by definition; they are turnkey cars that come assembled from the factory. You have selection of engines, transmissions and other components. This is critical in eliminating worries that corners may have been cut in the build process.  All BD's are built to very high quality standards. BD's Cobras are unparalleled in the replica car world. For starters, BD's are built on a BMW M3 chassis with 4 wheel independent suspension, giant front sway bar and rack and pinion steering. Doors, hood and truck are double skinned for added rigidity. Steel inserts are added in key areas for added durability and strength. Frame is 2"x4" rectangular steel frame with 3mm wall thickness. Only BD's have deep leg tunnels to fit drivers up to 6' 4. Extra heat insulation is added around the floor tunnel to keep heat out of the passenger compartment.  At a total weight of approx. 2,300 pounds, BD's mean business. Built as a race car from the get go with similarly skilled drivers and power to weight ratios, BD's beat other turnkey cars at the track and autocross all day long. Build No: 817 (2009)  With all the following added options, this Backdraft Cobra would cost just under $70,000. to duplicate today Engine and Transmission Options:  Roush 427R/796 Crate Engine 550 HP/535 ft. lbs. Note: The Corbeau seats are both fix mounted. (Driver seat can be moved approx. 2" either way as a fix mount) Original barrel style seats included with fully adjustable drivers seat if needed. All seats are bolted through the frame. There is no sound like a ported, roller cam 427 engine with that deep rumble through headers and straight side pipes. When accelerating, it will take your breath away. The music group "Rip Cords" nailed it with the song "Hey Little Cobra".  Park it next to some exotic costing $$$$$$$$ more and you will see which car receives the most attention, compliments and photos! Hands down this Shelby Cobra wins every time. This Cobra demands attention/photos where ever you travel. I feel the grey color combination is the most original look for a Cobra. Well because, I rode in one! This Cobra has never seen the rain. Complete top and car cover all fit easily in the trunk if needed. Full top was only used to block the hot Florida sun, Again, with the tops removable rear window, air passes through the car making a drive very comfortable. This Roush 427R has been carefully cared for. The engine runs very strong and has never over heated. This engine was dyno-tuned by BD, producing more horsepower then any other similar 427R .  All Backdrafts are titled as:"1965 Roas CV."  Classic car insurance companies classify these vehicles as a classic car resulting in savings over regular car insurance. I have never had a car that I have enjoyed so much. The car is awesome fun to drive and the sound of the engine is amazing. Anyone, in the Shelby Cobra World in Dade, Broward and Palm Beach Counties know this car.  Warranty:  This vehicle is being sold as is, where is, with no warranty, expressed or implied.
